Dynamic Response in 2 Milliseconds – DSR in Lighting
Demand and supply fluctuations are instant, largely unpredictable and often of short duration, therefore the most effective response to the fluctuation will be one which is itself instantaneous, automatic and remains effective for the duration of the incident. The UK National Grid’s Power Responsive initiative, launched June 2015, is hoping to improve response times from the current best of 2.5 seconds to 1 second.
AdrON’s response to power supply incidents is in the order of 2 milliseconds.
Our Patented technology is unique within the market and as Governments place Dynamic Demand firmly at the head of their Energy priority lists, the potential market is huge. The increased use of ‘Smart’ technology by an increasing number of Aggregators further demonstrates the importance given to this area of energy management. We first met Nick in a car park, tussled hair, ready smile. Could this fresh faced young man really be the genius inventor who we’d come to meet? Our design team, Jenson and Tony looked bemused too when we tramped into their den. What was all this about?
The Lighting Association had suggested we met – that it would be ‘a good thing’ and here we were.
Nick explained, we listened, we listened some more – we were stunned, euphoric and full of admiration. We had not experienced the confinement but had just witnessed the birth of two fabulous inventions –
The iViTi ON and the iViTi AdrON.
That was a while back. The Patents have now been patented. Designers, engineers and magicians lovingly laboured and bank accounts raided to fund development. The Welsh Government have helped too, a lot.
We’ve talked to the National Grid. Nick’s inventions include the sweet words of predictable, automatic, instantaneous, balancing and the significance of these qualities, considering their own energy balancing issues was music to the ears. “Go forth and trial ” they said. Lighting uses 18% of UK’s energy requirement.
The iViTi AdrON can be automatically switched to its own internal power storage system for up to 3 hours during peak tariff times, so no mains electricity is used. Smart switching means pre-purchased, spare energy can be re-sold.
Nick has invented the least disruptive solution to Grid energy balancing issues. Consider the reduction in Carbon as calls to the coal and gas power stations would significantly reduce when the dinners are cooking and the electric cars are re-charging on cold, dark winter evenings.

We have –
A super fast solution to Grid energy balancing during periods of peak and low demand – predictable, instantaneous and undetectable.
A technology which can be incorporated into most commercial LED lighting systems, including street lights. The lights stay on without disruption or change to the working environment.
An innovation that monitors Grid frequency and switches to and from battery operation to take and place pressure off and on the Grid.
CO2 emissions are reduced by between 300–750 tonnes per annum, per megawatt of unused fossil fuel because coal and oil stations on standby or running inefficiently at part load are not needed as reserve.
The technology has the potential to unlock new regular income revenues :
1. By using Grid power at low demand times to re-charge batteries.
2. By going off Grid and using battery power at peak demand times.
3. Re-selling any unused pre-purchased energy.
Capacity needs of new buildings can be lowered. The lights stay on if there’s a power cut, creating safer workplaces.
UK invented, designed, tested and scheduled for Q2 2016 manufacture at Sony UK TEC (Winners of UK ‘Best Factory Award 2013)and has IP Protection granted in the UK and pending in Europe, USA, Japan, South Korea and China.

The AdrON – which stands for Automatic Demand Response in Lighting is the greenest, least disruptive solution to Grid Energy Smoothing/Balancing during peak demand times. Predictable, Instantaneous, Undetectable.
The AdrON is an LED lamp (it can also be an independent external unit) that has internal batteries and Impedance and Grid Frequency Monitoring technology that can detect excessive pressure on a Grid in real time and then automatically, immediately and undetectably switch to its own internal batteries. The lamp reverts back to mains power when a Grid gets back to ‘normal’ and when a Grid has surplus power, the battery will re-charge, mopping up excess Grid energy. Individual lamps react in a phased, linear manner to and from battery power, keeping the Grid and the Battery happy.
The AdrON takes pressure off the Grid, minimising dependency on dirty old Power Stations when demand is high.
Organisations can save money by avoiding peak time energy rates when the AdrON switches the lights to battery operation, Smart or automatically. Selling their excess pre-purchased energy is an extra revenue stream and a great incentive for change, allowing them to also show their commitment to a purpose beyond profit. Smiles all around.
